Launch of the Institute of Children’s Health Ireland
19th October 2026
Minister for Health Jennifer Carroll MacNeill TD was delighted to mark the launch of the Institute of Children’s Health Ireland (ICHI), a significant new milestone for children’s healthcare on the island of Ireland.
The Institute brings together expertise in clinical care, research, education, simulation and innovation, creating stronger links between hospitals, universities, research centres and charities to improve outcomes for children and young people. Through partnerships with leading academic institutions across Ireland and Northern Ireland, ICHI will help ensure that the latest research and international best practice can be translated into better care for patients.
Speaking at the launch, Minister Carroll MacNeill TD highlighted the Government’s continued commitment to healthcare investment through Budget 2027, which provides €29.1 billion for health services. She noted that investment in people, research and innovation is essential as Ireland prepares for the opening of the new National Children’s Hospital.
The Institute is already making an impact, with more than 100 clinical trials and studies underway and over 1,000 children participating to date. These initiatives are helping to bring advanced treatments and research opportunities closer to home for Irish families.
Minister Carroll MacNeill TD praised the collaboration underpinning ICHI and acknowledged the contribution of Children’s Health Ireland, university partners, researchers, clinicians and the Children’s Health Foundation. She emphasised that children, young people and their families must remain at the heart of everything the Institute seeks to achieve.
The launch marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter for children’s healthcare, research and innovation in Ireland.
