Minister Carroll MacNeill TD Supports Movember’s Men’s Health Initiative at the National Ploughing Championships

September 2026

Minister for Health Jennifer Carroll MacNeill TD was delighted to support the important work of Movember at this year’s National Ploughing Championships in Tullamore.

Returning to the Championships for a second year, Movember provided free haircuts and an opportunity for conversation in a relaxed barbershop setting, helping to encourage men in rural and farming communities to talk openly about their physical and mental health. The initiative created a welcoming space where men could access information, connect with others, and be reminded that it is okay to ask for help.

Minister Carroll MacNeill TD praised the work of Movember, its volunteers, and advocates, recognising their year-round commitment to supporting men’s mental health and wellbeing. She highlighted the positive impact of encouraging men to have open conversations, build stronger social connections, and seek support at an early stage when needed.

The National Ploughing Championships provided a unique opportunity to reach communities from across Ireland, ensuring that important health messages and supports are accessible to people wherever they live.

Movember continues to play a vital role in breaking down stigma around mental health, encouraging meaningful conversations, and helping men take positive steps towards better wellbeing. Minister Carroll MacNeill welcomed the organisation’s ongoing efforts and the difference they are making in communities throughout the country.
