Taoiseach and Minister for Health open new HSE Surgical Hub in Cork

The Taoiseach, Micheál Martin TD, and Minister for Health, Jennifer Carroll MacNeill TD, officially opened the new HSE Cork Surgical Hub on September 28th 2026, a major addition to healthcare capacity in the south of the country.

The new facility is designed to increase access to planned procedures and help reduce waiting times by providing dedicated surgical services in a modern, patient-focused environment. The hub will support the delivery of high-volume, low-complexity surgeries, allowing more patients to receive treatment more quickly and efficiently.

Speaking at the opening, Minister Carroll MacNeill stated that “It is fantastic to know that many thousands of people will benefit from the treatement they will receive in this new Hub, whether that be for a hernia, carpel tunnel syndrome or pain relief injections. This Hub will ensure that they receive the care they need where and when they need it.”

The Minister highlighted the importance of expanding surgical capacity as part of the Government’s commitment to improving patient access to care. She noted that dedicated surgical hubs are playing a key role in reducing waiting lists and ensuring patients receive treatment in a timely manner.

Taoiseach Micheál Martin welcomed the opening of the facility in his home city, describing it as a significant investment in healthcare infrastructure that will benefit patients across Cork and the wider region for years to come.

The Cork Surgical Hub is expected to enhance the delivery of elective care, improve patient outcomes and support healthcare staff in providing high-quality services.
