Minister Jennifer Carroll MacNeill Launches Medical Council Workforce Intelligence Report

Minister for Health Jennifer Carroll MacNeill officially launched the Medical Council Workforce Intelligence Report 2025 on 31 August 2026, welcoming the report as an important contribution to workforce planning and the future development of Ireland’s healthcare system.

Speaking at the launch, Minister Carroll MacNeill acknowledged the work of the Medical Council in producing the report and emphasised the importance of workforce intelligence in planning for current and future healthcare needs. She noted that understanding workforce trends is essential to building a sustainable health service, supporting medical professionals and delivering better outcomes for patients.

The report provides valuable insights into Ireland’s medical workforce, including trends in doctor registration, workforce distribution, training pathways and retention. The Minister also highlighted ongoing efforts to expand healthcare capacity, strengthen recruitment and retention, and support the training and development of doctors throughout their careers.
